Office of Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation is the uniform centralized system of prosecutors that are subordinate to the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation. On behalf of the state, the Office of Public Prosecutor carries out the supervision of execution of laws, observance of rights and freedoms of the person and the citizen, and also criminal prosecution and coordination of activities of law enforcement bodies. The general prosecutor of the Russian Federation is appointed to the post and is dismissed by the Federation Council on presentation of the President of the Russian Federation. Assistants to the General Prosecutor are also appointed by the Federation council. Public prosecutors of subjects of the Russian Federation are appointed by the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation as agreed with bodies of the government of subjects of Federation. Other public prosecutors - public prosecutors of cities, areas and the specialized Offices of Public Prosecutor - are appointed by the General Prosecutor of the Russian Federation. The term of office of all the public prosecutors is 5 years. The order of the President of the Russian Federation from February, 8 2000 establishes number of workers in the Office of Public Prosecutor of Russia at 47021.
