Political parties
A political party (PP) is registered in accordance with the law as a public association that has been created to allow citizens of Russia to participate in political affairs of society by formulating and expressing their political will , to participate in public and political activities and to represent the interests of the citizens in the bodies of state power and bodies of self-government.

A PP must have regional branches in more than half the subjects of the RF, but not more than one in each subject. A political party must have a minimum of 10,000 members. The minimal membership in no less than half of the regional branches is 100.

The leading and other steering bodies of a political party must be located on the territory of the Russian Federation.

The objectives and tasks of a political party are set down in its charter and program. State registration of a PP and its regional branches is executed by the federal registering body and territorial registering bodies respectively.

The activities of a political party are regulated by the Federal Law "On political parties" (adopted by the State Duma 21.06.2001, endorsed by the Federation Council 29.06.2001).
